Hello!
Hope everyone stayed cool and hydrated again last week! We went to Chico this weekend and stayed cool by taking our grandson to see Inside Out 2! He said he enjoyed it, he’s 14 so kinda hard to tell, but my daughter did let us know he was in a good mood when she got home:)
The OG’s were out in the Orchard weeding, harvesting some plums and trapping gophers! Seems they found a way into the Orchard and are creating a lot of holes out there. Can’t blame them when there are some yummy ground fruit to be had once they fall from the trees!
Lots of weeding, always weeding, going on. Weeds were pulled out garden wide as well as a few beds; AB27, AB08, AB09 & AB10. The weed pile found its way into a green bin out front! The new expansion was expanded with some weeding and sheet mulching happening! RB Weed Annihilator was back out to hack back the weeds along the perimeter of the garden:)
We got new crates for harvesting! Lance worked hard at getting them all tared by the end of the week! Thank you for doing that Lance!
We had squash bug hunting going on! V tried using tape to get the eggs off the squash leaves but it didn’t work very well. She is also trying to save some eggs in a jar to examine their life cycle, how cool is that! FYI, she is also good at spotting Cabbage butterfly eggs so if anyone is interested in finding out more about that let me know and I’ll see if V can find some more to show!
Four beds were prepped last week; B04, E01, AB27 & AB08. Out of those beds we planted 42 peppers and eggplants in B04 and 80 beans were direct sown into E01. We also planted 20 eggplant into AB30, 22 eggplant and peppers into AB31, 17 cucumbers direct sown into A04 with 1 cucumber being transplanted from the Greenhouse, 44 squash direct down into AB09 and 43 squash direct sown into AB09; these are beds that were prepped before this week. All totaled we got 284 new plants either transplanted or directly sown into beds for summer crops!
R took care of the worms this week, feeding them a bit more fruit and giving them some much needed water in this heat. Garden wide we continued to water the beds with the direct sown seeds to help them stay moist whilst they germinate! Trellis’ were added to AB27 and AB08 for our cucumbers to climb. Fertilizer was batched up by Enrique with a little help from Brenda.
We all harvested 670.25lbs of produce to send to the Livermore pantries last week! That is a lot of mouths being fed…just warms the heart
All that and more I am sure. This morning I had a wisdom tooth extracted so please forgive me if I am forgetting something! Between resting I was able to get the Happy Monday note done though and I am grateful for that:)
Take care
Lori
