Happy Monday!

Hi All,

Last Week;

York was back out! We donated some laundry detergent to them for always taking the dirty gloves to clean and sort for us. Part of the crew got to clean labels to help us get ready for winter plantings. K helped me get some measurements for a Scout who will be building a new bench on the side of the office as well as a hoop house table and a table for us to place the garden tools outside the office! The rest of the crew shredded paper and then proceeded to feed the worms, place 2” of the shredded paper as well as a layer of compost before finishing up with watering them in. A & L counted how many of the garden knives were left and were happy to report we still have all of them returning to the basket for next use, lol!

I gotta give a shout out to AYLUS! This is a youth group that had come out over the summer and are returning to help out even more. The last couple of times they learned how to harvest, cage and clip back the tomatoes. Last week they learned how to prune the tomatoes! It just may be we have them teach a class on tomatoes if we continue teaching them about tomatoes! For those of you who will be at the Gala, AYLUS will also be helping us with the raffle and live auction!

B01 was weeded out prepped and planted with beets thanks to GL. G04 and G03 were weeded out by JM, RL & MT, prepped and planted with 3 different Bok Choy; Bok Choi, White Stem & Milk by OB, VT & SW. Trying to get a jump start on some winter plantings! G04 also had the Orach seed harvested out by the GLIFY leader LH.

Compost area continues getting the love. The bins are being attended to and also being fed tomatoes and other compostable veggies that we are unable to send out to the pantries. The OG’s from the Orchard added branches to the privet branch pile the other day. The entire pile is now gone! Wood chipped by AW, NS & MS! Beds G04 & G03 both had FGW compost added to them!

Tomatillo plants were trellised up, AB25 started getting cleaned out of any dead plants, N beds had Sorghum removed from them and bed C02 had some of the tomato cages anchored down. Unfortunately we lost 2 tomato plants to the wind last Friday! We had to add T posts to keep the rest of the cages anchored in. Yesterday the wind picked up again and there are now more taomto cages down in C02 and the M beds. More anchoring down will need to be done this week as well as pruning back the tomato plants so they do not get so top heavy!

Tuesday’s harvest was over 500lbs! We ended up holding back tomatoes for Wednesday’s delivery! The total for the week was 866.04lbs for our local food pantries❤️

Yay you guys! Good job on all of you!!!

Take care

Lori
